
Paul Humes is a Core 5 Coach for Fathering Together. He joined the organization through the Facebook group “Dads with Daughters” seeking community and diverse perspectives on fatherhood. Upon finding fathers who shared many of the same questions, concerns, and joys in parenting, he continued to join in regular conversations until formally joining as a coach in 2021.
Paul is the founder of Wild Nature Play and a program manager for an environmental education non-profit in Colorado. Prior to this, he served in the Air Force National Guard (2004-2010), Peace Corps Thailand (2011-13), as a licensed K-6 educator, and has managed a variety of businesses from an international hostel to a wilderness-skills school. He is interested in continued education around child development and the value of unstructured play in childhood.
From the lens of his four male archetypes of husband, father, community member, and self, Paul specializes in the use of time outdoors to mentor youth and bring community together. He trains adult mentors to connect youth to nature and consults with families on how to incorporate unstructured play into their lives. His hobbies include running, reading, writing, bike rides with his daughter, and kicking back with buddies on the front porch.
Paul is also interested in ancestry. He is a 4th generation US citizen with maternal lineage roots in Germany and Slovenia. Through his paternal line, he is 6th generation with Irish and English roots. He is the oldest of four siblings. Originally from Indiana, he has lived or traveled to nearly 30 countries. He currently resides in Boulder, Colorado area with his wife and two children.
